I wasn’t allowed to talk about it until it came out, so now I can finally tell you all about it. I think I’m going to bullet point out my experience to spare you from my ramblings.</p> <ul><li>For the .5 seconds I’m on screen, I had to come in and sing a song and audition. </li> <li>I was <em>sure</em> after leaving the audition that I had blown it. I messed up my song and there were so many other girls there. </li> <li>I freaked out when I got called in. Obviously. </li> <li>We shot on one of the hottest days of the summer. We all kept standing in the shade of the U-haul to keep cool. </li> <li>Even though we were outside on a really sunny day there were still huge lights and reflectors that made it even hotter. </li> <li>The interns and PAs were really nice and kept coming around with water mist spray things and sun screen.</li> <li>I made friends with the two older dudes who play hippies later on in the sketch. One of them made both the bracelets I’m wearing in the video. </li> <li>The original song was much longer, and I must have heard it 100+ times. </li> <li>It took all day (about 8 hours) to shoot that one sketch. </li> <li>The time between shooting the first screenshot and the second was about 4 hours.</li> <li>Which was fine because in between some shots I got to teach Fred Armisen how to play uke and jam with him. (I need to make this happen again somehow)</li> <li>It was fun but really a lot of work, I admire <em>everyone</em> who was busting their butts and yet remained so nice throughout the day. </li> </ul><p>Those are the highlights of my Portlandia experience. I feel really lucky that I got to be a part of the show. Everyone just looking and drawing. Everyone working on art. </p> <p>Figure drawing class used to really stress me out, but this time I was just there for me. There to try and better myself. Though every now and then I got this creeping feeling that whoever was running it was going to look over my shoulder and tell me that the legs were too long or whatever.
